Lesbian Community Project Patrons

For the first time in its 16 year history, the LCP board voted on the appointment of several Patrons who will carry the Lesbian Community Project banner with them far and wide across the UK and beyond. After much deliberation, it was decided that the first of our patrons should be Katie McCabe, Rosie Lugosi and Claire Mooney, and they were all happy to be asked. Here's a little bit more information about our patrons!

Claire Mooney

Our third new patron is the wonderful Claire Mooney. Known not only for her music which has enjoyed worldwide airplay, but also for her regular appearances on BBC Radio Manchester. A born and bred Mancunian, Claire has become somewhat of a Manchester Pride celebrity, lending her talents year after year to Women's Stage. With a career spanning 25 years, Claire continues to draw audiences of all ages to her shows. She is the thinking dykes totty, a true Manchester Dykon and singer of the FANTASTIC "You're never fully dressed without a fleece!" Claire is a truly one of a kind artist, with diverse albums from to "Ordinary Rebel" in 2001, "8 Ages of Women" in 2002 to "As Good as You" in 2007, nobody else captures the female psyche quite as well. We hope she will bring her unique brand of humour and entertainment to the LCP and we welcome her on board.>

Katie McCabe

Katie McCabe is a comedian from across the pond, but we don't hold that against her! A graduate of New York University, Katie can hold an audience with something as simple as an ambiguous use of the F word. Poking fun at pop culture, both English and American, Katie has performed on stages across the US and of course, all over the UK, in fact she has just spent the season at the fringe (that's that little comedy festival in Edinburgh!) and has gathered a huge following from all over the UK. Katie is also an avid blogger, (check out www.ilovethingsthataregreat.com) and a preacher of positivity. Despite her packed schedule, Katie always finds time to support the LCP at events, bringing her own unique brand of stand up to our fund-raiser's. We are very pleased to have Katie on board as a patron!

Rosie Lugosi

This LCP patron doesn't need much of an introduction, she is the one and only Rosie Lugosi, a long time supporter and friend of the Lesbian Community Project, the board of Trustees decided that it was about time that we made the relationship more formal and so approached her after her stint on stage at Oldham Pride and asked her very nicely (she's an approach with caution kinda girl!) and she happily accepted! If you've never had the pleasure of meeting (or being punished) by Rosie, let me tell you a little bit about her. Rosie was a vampire before Twilight made it cool! Her performances combine Terror with a dash of Tease, Glamour with more than a hint of Hellfire. Be sure to listen out for her notorious classic, "Let's go eat babies" and prepare to be terrified (or at least moist!) Rosie is one of the UK's most popular compère and has performed throughout the UK, Europe and the USA and has always, very kindly allowed the LCP to use (and abuse) her image - her face has appeared on posters, badges and keyrings and she even comes to compère our fund-raising events. We certainly couldn't think of a better patron!
